What's one thing every forum needs?

What do you think is far the most important thing to have in a forum? Regardless the genre.

setting and some sort of chat area. i feel like no matter what im roleplaying on i should know the location, so then when i make a character i can understand the locations, or terminology of said setting. also a place to talk to others is good as you don't want to be around people you might not vibe with

Every forum needs something unique, something that makes them stand out from the crowd. People are used to common stuff, people want something unique (even it is hard to find).

Forums with very specific niche are good if what they target is popular. For instance, if people love world of warcraft, having forum for it is a great idea, but sadly blizzard already has one. So, you get the point.

I would say the most important thing to have regardless of the genre in a forum is spam protection and also Cloudflare if possible.

You never know when someone could choose to attack in some form or another so it is always wise to be protected.

One thing first is to restrict registration to be approved. The last thing you need is a troll joining while you’re asleep and having fun with your forum all night. That happened to me I woke up to a bunch of porn.

Like someone else said it has to have something unique about it regardless of the genre
